Fitness Events in Raleigh – August 2014

Get some last-minute fun in the sun this August!

Check out these local fitness events in the Raleigh area going on next month – with everything from a kid’s triathalon to the Healthy Living After 50 Expo, there’s something for everyone!

Don’t let your health fall by the wayside as the school year starts again…

Lake Park Kids Triathlon

Cheer on your child as she swims, bikes and runs throughout the Lake Park neighborhood in Raleigh!

Event distances are scaled to age groups and are all relatively short!

  • Who: Children ages 6 – 13
  • When: Saturday, August 9th at 8:00 AM
    Register by July 29th!

Healthy Kids Back to School & Healthy Living After 50 Expo 

Help support local businesses while learning about how to keep yourself or your kids healthy as we head back into fall. With plenty of exhibits and vendors, you’ll leave knowing a lot more about health and wellness than when you came in!

Rex Wellness Sprint Triathlon

Like swimming, biking, and running but only in small, quick doses? Join others just like you and raise money for the Rex Healthcare Foundation in Raleigh. This event usually has a large turnout, so you can show up to compete or to have fun at your own pace.

  • What: A 250 meter swim, 10 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run triathlon
  • When: August 17

Raleigh 8000

5ks not far enough to get your running fix, but 10ks just a bit too long for your taste? Try the Raleigh 8000 – an 8k race through many of Raleigh’s scenic greenways. Proceeds go towards the Wake County chapter of The Autism Society, so you’ll help your community while keeping yourself in shape!

The Most Amazing Race

Looking for a little more out of your race than just…running? Check out Raleigh’s Most Amazing Race: a scavenger hunt mixed in with running through downtown Raleigh, similar to the popular show “The Amazing Race.”

  • Who: Teams of 2, ages 18 and up
  • What: A race / scavenger hunt to raise funds for the Salvation Army of Wake County
  • When: August 23
    10:00 AM
  • Where: Starting location TBD – race takes place in downtown Raleigh

Plunge, Pedal and Plod Triathlon

This unique race features several different options for distances. You can pick from a short track with only a 50 yd swim, or a longer course with 400 m swim. No matter your preferences or ability level, there’s a distance for you!

  • What: A triathlon open to all ages and ability levels
  • When: August 24th
