I am back to the weight I was at in my
30s, which I didn't think was possible.
Since her first session at Capital Strength back in December of 2022, Elizabeth has gone from 2-sessions a week to getting in 3 workouts with consistency. She looks forward to it ever day and does everything she can to not miss a session.
What were you most skeptical about before training at Capital Strength?
“This was my first time working with a personal trainer, but I reached a point in my life that I knew the only way I would stick with a program was if I had someone waiting on me and hold me accountable. I was most skeptical with myself that I would show up consistently.”
What was life like before training at Capital Strength? What did you struggle with?
“I have three main reasons: weight gain, growing children, and mental health. Aging and a demanding job has lent me to gain weight. I want to be able to stay active and healthy and maintain mobility to keep up with my kids as they get older. Strength training is also so important for bone density as we age. I have a history of dementia in my family and I want to fight cognitive decline.”
What specific results have you achieved?
“The first year was focused on form, increasing awareness of how much I favor one side and aligning my movements. I definitely was getting stronger - more weight, more reps. The second year is when I've really started to see physical results. The combination of getting focused on my daily nutrition (yes, tracking it!), strength training 3 days week and getting at least 10k steps a day (most days) has led to losing 15 lbs and seeing muscle development.”
What's life like now, how have things changed?
“I am proud of myself and want to keep making progress. I am not afraid to try new machines, new exercises, or add weight. In fact, our 12-year-old daughter just started some sessions to help her get stronger and faster for soccer.”
What have other people noticed or said about you that’s changed?
“People have noticed the weight loss as well as the muscle definition in my arms and shoulders.”
What’s your favorite thing or biggest surprise about Capital Strength?
“My favorite thing is how comfortable everyone makes you. The look of it can be intimidating with all the machines and weights but that quickly goes away once you realize that there's no pressure to do anything other than keep making progress at your speed on your schedule.”
To anyone on the fence about Strength Training, what would you tell them?
“Just try it! Sign up for at least a month to really give it a try. Capital is a very welcoming environment for people of all ages and levels of fitness. It's a small gym (which I like) which means you can get to know all the trainers and some of the other clients. We joke around. You feel like you are a part of something rather than just another person in a massive gym.”
